S1 nerve root injection - fluoroscopy

Presentation:

Elderly patient with symptoms attributable to the left S1 nerve root.

Modality: Fluoroscopy

Case Discussion:

Under fluoroscopic guidance a needle is advanced through the posterior foramen until the pain is reproduced. Perineural and extradural location is confirmed with injection of a small amount of contrast, following which a mixture of bupivacaine and betamethasone valerate are injected.
