Sacral schwannoma

Case contributed by Dr G Balachandran

A forty year old female was referred for evaluation of a large pelvic mass.

Patient Data:

Age: 40
Gender: Female
Modality: MRI

Case Discussion:

This patient's ultrasound examination (not shown) had revealed a  solid mass anterior to sacrum, displacing the uterus.

MR imaging shows a 6.2 x 5.8 cm solid mass with heterogenous signal intensity and dense contrast enhancement. There is evidence of erosion of left  second sacral foramen with the mass extension from the neural foramen.

Surgery and histology confirmed our pre operative diagnosis of sacral schwannoma.
