Subclavian steal effect

Case contributed by: Dr Roberto Schubert

Presentation:

Transient ischaemic attacks

Patient Data:

Age: 79
Gender: Female
Race: Caucasian
Modality: MRI

High grade left proximal subclavian artery stenosis with signal loss of the left VA on time-of-flight images due to flow reversal.

Case Discussion:

The normal antegrade flow signal of the left VA is missing in the 3D TOF images. On time-resolved 3D CE-MRA, the vessel shows delayed, retrograde contrast filling.
