Submandibular gland lesion oncocytoma

Case contributed by: Dr Maulik S Patel
Modality: Ultrasound

Case Discussion:

60 year old male, presenting with right submandibular swelling for over a year, which has recently become mildly painful.

Ultrasound demonstrated bilateral submandibular gland lesions, larger on the right.

Lesions are well-defined, hypoechoic without calcification or necrosis. Increased vascularity was present. No extra capsular spread was noted.

No cervical lymphadenopathy seen on USG.

FNAC - Right lesion - Warthin's tumor. But it is rare for this tumor to be in submandibular gland. It is mostly in parotids.

Patient is awaiting surgery. Final diagnosis after excision biopsy.

04/06/2010  POST Excision Histopathology - Oncocytoma.
