Presentation
Widespread pain and stiffness of the foot pronation and supination.
Patient Data
Prominent talar beak and continuous C sign between the talus and sustentaculum tali of the calcaneus.
Grossly abnormal medial subtalar joint with a hypoplastic sustentaculum and overhanging talar margin creating a vertical plane at the fibrous coalition. Because of the vertical orientation of coalition has been termed a "shingled appearance".
Case Discussion
The coalition calcaneal-talus may be complete if the bridge between articular heads is bone or incomplete if the union is partially cartilaginous, then we'll talk about synchondrosis, or partially fibrous and then we'll talk about syndesmosis.
