Abdominal pain. Gynecological history. Multi-parous.

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Large round circular artifact projects over the pelvis.  Appearances in keeping with a vaginal ring pessary.

Fecal loading.

Case Discussion

Usually identified incidental on imaging of elderly females a vaginal ring pessary is a mechanical pessary is most commonly used to treat uterine prolapse. It is also used to treat stress urinary incontinence, a retroverted uterus, cystocele and rectocele.
