Case contributed by Frank Gaillard

Presentation

Vascath inserted for dialysis

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

The Vas-Cath has an unusual location/course in keeping with the tip having passed through the arch of the azygos, and lying in the superior part of the azygos vein. This can be confirmed with a lateral projection but is almost certainly the case.

Case Discussion

A case such as this highlights the need to have a firm grasp of anatomy, as it would otherwise be relatively easy to not realize the location of the vascath.
