Indeterminate colitis

Last revised by Kieran Kusel on 5 Jun 2020

Indeterminate colitis is considered a somewhat controversial term. It was originally used by pathologists when no specific features for either Crohn disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC) were seen. Over the years the term has been adopted to describe patients in whom a diagnosis of UC or CD cannot be made based on standard clinical testing.
