Ethmoid mucocele

An ethmoid mucocele is a form of paranasal sinus mucocele involving the ethmoid air cells. Depending on its anterior and/or posterior location, they can also include nasoethmoid and sphenoethmoid mucoceles. Ethmoid mucoceles are considered the second most common in location 2.

Patients are commonly asymptomatic, although can occasionally present with ocular symptoms and signs, such as visual impairment 3, diplopia 5 or proptosis.

Homogeneously attenuating expansile lesion involving one of the ethmoid air cells, usually with bone thinning. Does not enhance with contrast and does not exhibit destructive features (i.e. outer bony margins are smooth).

Signal characteristics are similar to that of other paranasal sinus mucoceles.
