SMART-CT severity index

A SMART-CT severity index is a recent tool and an expansion of the original modified CT severity index of acute pancreatitis. This novel index that is nomogram based, predicts the clinical consequence with modest accuracy. Two components are mainly evaluated, the first ones are the components of the modified CT severity index and the second is the other exploratory variables 1.

  • pancreatic necrosis was split up into 0-100% with each interval was further divided into 10% instead of the original one of 30% necrosis
  • ascites and pleural effusion were quantified
  • both arterial and venous complications were separately scored
  • the hepatic steatosis
  • consistency of peri-pancreatic collection its largest dimension, gas and  CT attenuation / HU number of collection
