A mnemonic to remember the common features of achondroplasia is:

A: autosomal dominant inheritance, alteration (mutation) of FGFR3
C: champagne glass pelvis, chevron sign
H: hand abnormalities (trident hand, brachydactyly)
O: out knees, bOwing of legs (genu varum)
N: narrowing of interpedicular distance, narrowed foramen magnum, neurological complications, nasal bridge (depressed/narrowed)
D: decreased acetabular angle, delayed motor milestones
R: rhizomelic (short limbs)
O: obesity
P: posterior vertebral body scalloping, proximal limb shortening
La: large head (frontal bossing)
S: squared iliac wings (tombstone configuration), short stature
I: impaired endochondral ossification
A: anterior flaring of the ribs (metaphyseal flaring), anterior beaking of the vertebral body (bullet-shaped vertebra)
