Agnosia is a neurological disorder characterised by an inability to identify an object despite both having knowledge of that object and sensory input that is functional. For example a patient with posterior cortical atrophy, which characteristically has visual agnosia, will be unable to identify a hammer, even though they are able to see it and able to tell you what a hammer is used for etc...
