Ahaustral colon refers to the segmental or diffuse loss of haustral folds within the colon, which may be seen in barium studies, CT, MRI or plain radiography.
Related pathology
This condition arises from increased mucosal regeneration, leading to muscularis mucosae hypertrophy. While it may be seen as a senile finding, especially in the left colon, other causes include:
