Anatomical nomenclature

Last revised by Daniel J Bell on 5 Apr 2021

The correct usage of anatomical nomenclature is fundamental to good radiological, and more generally clinical medical, practice. Since 1998, the Terminologia Anatomica (TA) has set the global standard for what constitutes correct anatomical terminology; its second edition was published in 2019 1. The Terminologia Anatomica is the successor to the Nomina Anatomica.

The Terminologia Anatomica is used as the ultimate arbiter as to what constitutes correct anatomical nomenclature on Radiopaedia.org.
