Annulo-aortic ectasia

Annulo-aortic ectasia refers to a proximal dilatation of the aortic root at the level of the aortic annulus, it is also the same level of the sinus of Valsalva.


Annulo-aortic ectasia occurs with connective tissue diseases such as Marfan disease and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. It is a cystic medial necrosis, the patients are very liable to aortic dissection, which in may lead to rupture 1-3.
