The autonomic ganglia and plexuses are a collection of ganglia where autonomic preganglionic neurones arising from the CNS synapse with postganglionic neurones outside the CNS, i.e. in the peripheral nervous system. Many of the ganglia contain nerves of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Postganglionic neurones distribute to many visceral and vascular end organs.
They can be divided by body region:
-
head and neckcraniofacial otic ganglion
cervical
- thoracic
- abdominopelvic
- coccygeal
