- Haematopoietic progenitor cell antigen CD34
CD34 or hematopoietic progenitor cell antigen CD34 is an intercellular adhesion protein and cell surface glycoprotein and a frequently used marker of hematopoietic progenitor cells and endothelial cells. It is also expressed by many other non-hematopoietic cell types including multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells, interstitial dendritic cells and epithelial progenitors 1.
Usage
It serves as a target in immunohistochemistry where it can be used for the determination of vascularization of tumors and disease processes and the differentiation of different tumors as:
- Kaposi sarcoma, dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans vs cutaneous fibrous histiocytoma
- solitary fibrous tumor vs desmoplastic mesothelioma
- confirmation of gastrointestinal stromal tumors
