Compressive atelectasis

Compressive atelectasis refers to a form of lung atelectasis due to compression by a space-occupying process.

Some authors describe it as a subtype of compressive (relaxation) atelectasis where the reduction in lung volume is greater than its normal relaxed state 1. Whereas others describe it as the intrapulmonary counterpart of compressive (relaxation) atelectasis due to an intrapulmonary mass lesion4.
