- Costo-clavicular space
The costoclavicular space is the anterior portion of the superior thoracic aperture, between the clavicle and first rib. The subclavian vessels and brachial plexus pass though the space related to the scalene muscles. Proximally, the plexus passes through the scalene triangle, and distally through the subcoracoid space.
Its borders are:
- anterior: middle third of the clavicle
- posteromedial: first rib
- posterolateral: upper border of the scapula
Related pathology
The costoclavicular space narrows when the arm abducts 4 which explains its association with thoracic outlet syndrome.
