Deep femoral vein

Last revised by Craig Hacking on 2 Aug 2021

The deep femoral vein or the profunda femoris vein lies anterior to its artery, and receives tributaries corresponding to the branches of the artery. Through these tributaries it connects distally with the popliteal and proximally with the inferior gluteal veins. It sometimes drains the medial and lateral circumflex femoral veins and has a valve just before it empties into the femoral vein to form the common femoral vein.
