Dorsal double plate fixation isan openreduction internal fixationtechnique used for articular distal radius fractures with impacted articular fragments and/or displaced dorsoulnar fragments.
The distal radius is stabilized via a dorsal approach at two separate points.
Complications
Complications include extensor tendon irritation and loss of fracture reduction 1-3.
Outcomes
The main advantage of this approach is, that it permits a stable reduction of displaced the dorsoulnar fracture fragment which is crucial for the restoration of distal radioulnar joint anatomy. In addition, this approach facilitates the repair of concomitant intercarpal ligament injuries or bony injuries of the proximal carpal row. The main disadvantage is that it is technically more demanding 1-3.
