Drug-induced severe cutaneous adverse reactions

Several drug-induced severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCAR) are described:

• acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP)

• drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome

• epidermal necrolysis

  • this is a spectrum which includes Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis syndrome

These diseases share some common features and may be confused, especially in their earlier phases, however they are distinct clinical entities with clearly defined differentiating characteristics ¹.
