Epicardial lipomatosis

Epicardial lipomatosis or epicaridal lipomatous hypertrophy is a form of cardiac lipomatosis and is characterised by accumulation of non-encapsulated mature adipose tissue in the epicardial space due to hyperplasia of lipocytes. Its exact aetiology is not well known, but it may be associated with obesity and advancing age. It is usually benign but can rarely cause complications such as cardiac tamponade 2.
