Fat containing breast lesions generally have some radiolucent component on mammography.

Pathology

They are generally classified at BIRADS II lesions.

Common

breast lipoma
breast hamartoma
fat necrosis within the breast/oil cyst
intramammary lymph node: classically has a central fatty hilum
galactocoele

Uncommon

steatocystoma multiplex of the breast
angiomyolipoma of the breast ⁴: very rare lesion
well differentiated liposarcoma of breast

Note

complex sclerosing lesion:
- looks like breast carcinoma, but often has a lucent center; usually 1-3 cm; at <1 cm these lesions have the same histology but are called radial scars and are not usually mammographically seen
