Finger pathology

Finger pathology is wide and includes all lesions involving the tendons, ligaments, muscles, bone, and articulations of the hand and foot digits.

Congenital

• brachydactyly - short digits

• brachymetatarsia - short metatarsal

• arachnodactyly - elongated, thin "spider-like" digits ¹

• polydactyly (hyperdactyly) - supernumerary digits

• adactyly - the absence of all the digits of a limb

• oligodactyly - the absence of one or more digits

• ectrodactyly - the absence of one or more central digits with deep V-shaped central bony defect

• symphalangism - synostosis of the interphalangeal joints

• syndactyly - a fusion of two or more digits

• symbrachydactyly - a variety of anomalies including brachydactyly, syndactyly, and global hypoplasia of the digits ²

• clinodactyly - radial angulation at an interphalangeal joint
