The foot is the most distal part of the lower limb below the leg and ankle. It is a complex anatomical structure and can be subdivided into the hindfoot, the midfoot, and the forefoot. The bones of the foot are:
- tarsals (7)
- metatarsals (5)
-
phalanges (14)
- hallux (great toe)
- proximal and distal phalanges
- 2nd to 5th toes
- proximal, middle and distal phalanges
- hallux (great toe)
- hallux sesamoid (variable)
Arterial supply
- can be divided into plantar and dorsal components. See full article here
Venous drainage
- can be divided into plantar and dorsal components. See full article here
- forms as venous plexuses in the plantar portion of the toes becoming the plantar digital veins
