Genioplasty, known commonly as chin augmentation, refers to a surgical procedure performed to improve facial balance and/or rejuvenate the lower facial third-mandible. An osseous genioplasty refers to surgery which is performed by creating an osteotomy and then mobilizing an inferior segment of mandible forward and fixating into a new position.

In the immediate postoperative period, multiple small plates and screws may be present overlying the mandible, usually in a symmetrical fashion.
