Synonyms:

The hepatic plexus (plural: plexuses) is an autonomic nerve plexus and ganglia located in the upper abdomen. Most descriptions are of a periarterial extension of the coeliac plexus along the common hepatic artery and portal vein.

location: the plexus and ganglia extends to the right from the coeliac plexus to the porta hepatis
origin: same as the coeliac plexus
- via the preganglionic sympathetic fibres via the greater and lesser splanchnic nerves
- preganglionic parasympathetic fibres from the vagus nerves
branches and supply:
- two main components related to the portal triad:
  - anterior plexus which surrounds the common hepatic artery
  - posterior plexus which surrounds the portal vein and bile ducts
- complex network of small branches which follow the portal triad into the liver through the porta hepatis
- supplies the liver and gallbladder
relations: that of the common hepatic artery and portal vein
