As expected there are a number of different staging systems for hepatoblastoma.


Intergroup staging system
  • stage I
    • complete surgical resection
  • stage II
    • IIa
      • complete macroscopic surgical resection
      • intrahepatic residual microscopic disease
    • IIb
      • complete macroscopic surgical resection
      • extrahepatic residual microscopic disease
  • stage III
    • IIIa
      • incomplete surgical resection with macroscopic residual AND / OR
      • significant tumour spill AND / OR
      • positive lymph node disease
    • IIIb
      • tumour not resected
  • stage IV
    • IVa
      • distant metastatic disease
      • primary tumour completely resected
    • IVb
      • distant metastatic disease
      • primary tumour incompletely resected
