The hilar point on chest radiographs is formed by the outer margins of the superior pulmonary veins and either the interlobar pulmonary artery (on the right) or descending pulmonary artery (on the left) as they cross past each other. The left hilar point is usually 1-2 cm higher than the right ^1,2.
