Horseshoe adrenal gland

Last revised by Dr Daniel J Bell on 30 Jul 2021

A horseshoe adrenal gland is a very rare anomaly. It is also sometimes referred to as a butterfly, fused or midline adrenal gland.

It is a solitary adrenal gland that is present in the midline of the fused portion either passing between the aorta and the inferior vena cava or posterior to the aorta 4
