Hyperattenuating ring sign (epiploic appendagitis)

Last revised by Henry Knipe on 23 Nov 2024

The hyperattenuating ring sign is a sign that has been described with epiploic appendagitis and intraperitoneal focal fat infarction. It refers to a hyperattenuating ring of visceral peritoneum covering an epiploic appendage. In the setting of epiploic appendagitis, the ring would surround a thrombosed vascular pedicle with a resultant associated central hyperdense spot sign 1-3.
