Hypoattenuated leaflet thickening

Last revised by Joachim Feger on 8 Dec 2021

Hypoattenuated leaflet thickening (HALT) is an imaging feature seen on cardiac CT in the setting of subclinical leaflet thrombosis of prosthetic heart valves.

In the setting of surgical or transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), the evaluation for hypoattenuated leaflet thickening should be conducted in the diastolic phase after leaflet coaptation has been visualized 1-3.

On cross-sectional para-axial images, it is a hypoattenuating focal area seen on a valve leaflet that begins at the leaflet insertion on the valve frame and might be associated with reduced leaflet motion 1,3.
