Labia minora

Last revised by Daniel J Bell on 28 Dec 2019

The labia minora (singular: labium minus) are small glabrous cutaneous folds lying between and just superior to the labia majora. At their posterior margin the labia may be conjoined by a thin cutaneous fold of skin, the frenulum of the labia (also known as the fourchette or posterior commissure of the labia minora).

At their anterior margin the labia minora envelop the clitoris. Anterior to the clitoris the labia form the prepuce of the clitoris and posterior to the clitoris the labia form the frenulum of the clitoris. The vestibule of the vulva lies between the labia.

Multiple sebaceous glands are found on the apposing surfaces of the labia minora.
