Lateral acromial angle

Last revised by Yuranga Weerakkody on 6 Jan 2023

The lateral acromial angle is a measurement performed on plain film AP projection or coronal images of CT or MRI to assess the position of the acromion.

Measurement

It is measured by drawing a vertical line lateral and perpendicular to the glenoid and a horizontal line parallel to the acromion undersurface.

Interpretation

A low lateral acromial angle can be associated with a higher incidence of rotator cuff impingement with some authors suggesting a cut off of around 70-75 degrees as lower limits of normal 3,4.
