Lateral extra-articular tenodesis is an adjunct procedure for selected patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction mainly to control rotational instability, potentially preventing ACL graft failure 1,2. It is an alternative to anterolateral ligament reconstruction 3.
Epidemiology
Knee instability to persists after ACL reconstruction in ~10% (range 0.7-20%) of cases 1.
Procedure
Various lateral extra-articular techniques have been described but essentially involve taking a strip of iliotibial band that is anchored into the lateral femoral condyle either over or under the fibular collateral ligament 2,3.
