Lateral thoracic meningocoele

A lateral thoracic meningocoele is a type of spinal meningocoele.

Pathology

As with any meningocoele, it results from herniation of the meninges through a foramina or a defect in the vertebral column. 

Associations

They are typically associated with neurofibromatosis type I but can rarely occur in isolation. In these patients occurs in association with thoracic spine scoliosis.

Radiographic features

CT

Characterized as a well-circumscribed, low-attenuation paravertebral mass due cerebrospinal fluid content. Occasionally it may exhibit peripheral rim enhancement 4.
