Left supramesocolic space

The left supramesocolic space is an arbitrary subdivision of the supramesocolic space, which lies between the diaphragm and the transverse colon 1,2.

Gross anatomy

The left supramesocolic space is separated from the right supramesocolic space by the falciform ligament 3. The left supramesocolic space has two subspaces 1-3:

Related pathology

Like the right supramesocolic space, the left supramesocolic space and its subdivisions are usually in continuity with both each other and the rest of the subspaces of the peritoneum, but this communication can be broken or distorted by inflammatory adhesions or disease 1,2.
