Lower zone

The lower zone is one of the four chest radiograph zones and is sometimes used synonymously with lung bases.

Radiographic features

Plain radiograph
  • on frontal chest radiographs, extends inferiorly from the inferior aspect of the hilum to the hemidiaphragm
CT
  • using the zonal terminology for the location of findings on chest CT is generally discouraged, as a more precise lobar +/- segmental site, can usually be provided
