The Mumford procedure is the distal resection of the clavicle to relieve pain of a damaged acromioclavicular joint.
The open or arthroscopic procedure involves the removal of approximately 1 cm of the distal clavicle 5. Post-surgical physiotherapy is recommended to prevent the development of stiffness or frozen shoulder.
History and etymology
Distal clavicle excision was first described as an open technique by Mumford and Gurd in 1941 3.
