New-onset refractory status epilepticus

New-onset refractory status epilepticus (or NORSE) is defined as refractory status epilepticus without an obvious cause after initial investigations. It often occurs in previously healthy patients often with no identifiable cause.

No specific abnormalities except for perhaps occasional mild T2/FLAIR hyperintense signal of the mesial temporal lobe 1. Bilateral lesions of the claustrum may also be present.
