Esophageal lipomatosis describes fatty infiltration in the wall of the esophagus. It has been associated with oral and inhaled steroid use, but appears to be an asymptomatic incidental finding. 1

Esophageal lipomatosis can be seen as a partial or complete ring of low attenuation within higher density inner and outer layers of the esophageal wall. If thick enough, fat attenuation can be demonstrated. A propensity for the upper third of the esophagus has been reported.
