Optic neuropathy is a broad term and can result from a variety of causes including:
- genetic
- compression / trauma
- infiltration / neoplasm
- paraneoplastic
- collapsin response mediator protein-5 antibody
- nutritional / toxic
- inflammation (optic neuritis)
- vascular
- ischemic optic neuropathy
- non-arteritic-anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) most common
- arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy almost always associated with Ischemic optic neuropathy
- non-arteritic-posterior ischemic optic neuropathy
- arteritic-posterior ischemic optic neuropathy
- central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO)
- central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO)
- ischemic optic neuropathy
