Os intercuneiforme

Last revised by Travis Fahrenhorst-Jones on 18 Oct 2023

An os intercuneiforme is a supernumerary tarsal bone located between the first and second cuneiforms, anterior to the navicular bone

It is a rare ossicle with an estimated prevalence of 1-2% 1

An os intercuneiforme presents as a triangular-shaped bone appearing to be an isolated proximal corner of the medial cuneiform.

It is thought to belong rather to the medial than to the intermediate cuneiform 2.

Some authors claim that with its rare occurrence and small dimensions, the ossicle is not thought to be of any clinical significance 2.
