Palmar ulna bursa

Last revised by Henry Knipe on 27 Jan 2021

The palmar ulna bursa is one of the bursae in the palmar surface of the hand.

Gross anatomy

The palmar ulnar bursa is usually the larger bursa and encases the majority of the flexor tendons. It typically originates at the level of the pronator quadratus muscle and continues distally to approximately 1-3 cm proximal to the flexor tendon sheaths of digits two, three, and four. It may communicate with the palmar radial bursa in a viable proportion of patients.
