Pericardial diverticulum

Pericardial diverticula are focal outpouching arising from the pericardium. They are differentiated from congenital pericardial cysts by the presence of direct communication with the pericardial cavity. They can change in size related to body position, with symptoms related to the change in position of the patient.

Differential diagnosis

The differentials to be considered may include : 

• pericardial cysts
• bronchogenic cysts
• thymic cysts
• aortic aneurysm
