The brain has three pointed ends or poles used as anatomical references when accessing the external features of a cerebral hemisphere:

the frontal pole corresponds to the anterior end of the hemisphere
the temporal p ole in the middle cranial fossa corresponds to the anterior end of the temporal lobe
the occipital pole corresponds to the posterior end of the hemisphere
