Primary pulmonary chondrosarcoma is an extremely rare form of chondrosarcoma, in terms of location. The majority of intrathoracic chondrosarcomas occur in relation to the chest wall.

Epidemiology

While the exact incidence is unknown, only a handful of cases have been reported in the literature.

Pathology

Markers

Tumors can be positive for the S100 protein 1.

Radiographic features

They can be variable in size with some reports stating 2-11 cm at time of presentation 1.

Treatment and prognosis

As with other chrondrosarcoma, it usually grows slowly, tends to metastasize late, and often responds well to excision when localized.
