Punctate microcalcification within the breast

Punctate microcalcifications within the breast are defined as calcific opacities <0.5 mm in diameter seen within the acini of a terminal ductal lobular unit.

  • diffuse
  • often bilateral
BI-RADS categories
  • scattered round calcifications: BI-RADS 2
  • isolated cluster or if new or ipsilateral to cancer: BI-RADS 3 or 4
