Pyelolithiasis is calculus or calculi located centrally within the renal pelvis.

Other terminologies that may be used interchangeably with pyelolithiasis to refer to these calculi include renal stones, urolithiasis, and nephrolithiasis. A calculus located within the renal calyx can be called calycolithiasis/calicolithiasis 4.

Symptomatic patients may present with colicky renal pain, hematuria, obstructive pyelonephritis, and strangury in rare cases 3. However, not all patients may become symptomatic, especially when the calculi are small-sized, solitary, and non-obstructive.
